Like many of the Fish Creek Staff who I am "following", I've had previous experience with parts of Google such as Chrome, gmail, and images. Friends have also proudly displayed their knowledge and know-how of Google Earth and maps... This assignment encouraged me to download Google Earth for myself and do a little exploration of maps. The maps I checked quickly demonstrated the product's strengths and limitations by looking for specific addresses in the city. Great for city addresses, not quite as helpful for rural and small town locations... no pictures! Still, useful for getting from here to there.
The world is beginning to feel smaller with ALL this information at my fingertips. Last week's experience with Face Book also made the world feel smaller since I connected with friends I haven't talked to in decades. Amazing.

Face Book
Although I used another social networking site years ago, I was not in a big hurry to sign up for Face Book. Maybe I didn't think I would find it necessary or useful. On the other hand, occasionally someone has said "look at my facebook account to see my recent photos etc"... I never could. Now that I've taken the plunge, I'll be able to see everyone's latest holiday adventures and upload a few of my own (maybe)! Also it might be fun to be in touch with old friends. It was kind of fun signing up today. I wonder how Face Book can possibly know who my friends might be the minute I get an account? That was spooky and interesting! For now I'll leave my privacy settings wide open since there is nothing particularly private about my account. On the other hand, CPL friends who are Face Book veterans may tell me why I should be more careful. I'll check that out soon.

Wikipedia... Memories of childhood and cpl web 2.0
What a feeling of power... very short-lived no doubt. I went to the page about my home town of Wiarton. Under 'things to do' I added the suggestion to go swimming off the town dock, especially in August and September when the water is lovely and warm. The content of the article was great... before I added my little memory piece!
The original article in Wikipedia was not too long, but contained most important information about the town and it's beginnings. Grammar and spelling perfect!

Delicious web 2.0 (2nd assignment)
The advantages of Delicious for CPL's "Best Websites" are very clear. Best Websites are an important part of information service at the library. We wouldn't want to be without the ability to bookmark and share useful / great web resources with our customers. Has Delicious improved recently?... or maybe I've improved! I found it easier to navigate and get to my favourites with this assignment. Delicious seemed confusing at first... when we first started using it. This assignment was a great reminder of all those lovely gems available for tough (and not so tough) info questions.
